ELF isn't all bad.

While I hate ELF polishes, they have some nice cheap brushes for people who are just getting into makeup. I picked up this brush from Target for a dollar.

It's not an amazing brush, but it's actually the first brush I've actually purchased. So, when I use it, it doesn't shed. It leans towards the fluffier side but packs on shadow decently.

One of the things that confused me about this brush was the label as "defining eye brush". What does that mean exactly and if you owned this, how would you use it?

  1. i love elf brushes, that work very well for me, I also tried some blushes and bronzers that look pretty nice too. I wish we have a target here :(

  3. I think what they mean is to define your eyes or areas i.e. create a crease, highlight brow bones or however. I use it to fill in my eyebrow, apply eyeshadows or even blending as well.

  4. I have 2 of these brushes and I've mostly used it as a crease brush. The other one is in my nail kit for cleaning up the edges/cuticles after I give myself a manicure.

  5. BTW - If you're looking to build a brush collection on the cheap I would recommend checking out Eco-Tools. Their large foundation brush, large bronzer brush, and retractable kabuki are some of my favorite brushes (even over more expensive ones). Their eye brushes are great too!

  6. I STILL need to try E.L.F. products. Why do I keep forgetting? Probably because Sephora doesn't sell them. They should. Then maybe I would remember.

  7. ELF brushes are decent. I bought a ton of their eyeshadow brushes when they were 75% off. (A brush for different eyeshadow colors!) I haven't tried the larger brushes though. I agree with WitchHazel that Eco-Tool brushes are amazing! I own most of them! They're nice and soft, never shed (in my experience)! They're also affordably priced compared to other brushes out there (aside from ELF that is!)

  8. I just bought an Elf foundation brush to keep at my boyfriend's. It's nowhere near as good as my Sephora one, but for $1.99, it'll do.

  10. I agree with those above. I have several high end brushes and often reach for my Eco-tools over then. I have only a few elf brushes but only when I'm using a heavily pigmented extreme color (a color i dont typically use) or glitter shadow do I use the elf brushes. If you haven't tried NYX totally get your hands on some. Hit up an ultra to check out some of the colors then order them thru cherryculture.com especially when they are on sale. Great pigment for a great price.

  11. I've always found that ELF brushes work for me for like single-color application, but not as well if I'm trying to blend colors, which can be sort of annoying.

  12. I think the defining part is for contouring and blending colors? But I'm not a makeup guru by any means - it's just a guess :)

I'm wary of most brushes - sometimes I feel like they are too coarse which results in some painful makeup application.

  13. Elf is definitely kind of a hit or miss for me...but when it's a hit...it's a HIT. I have a brush really similar to this from Elf and I love it ^^

  14. Elf brushes are.... fine. The dollar ones work pretty well, but they do fall apart in a couple months. The studio brushes ($3 online) are much better quality and last longer too!
