Soda Cravings

via weheartit
This is what I think about when I get a soda craving: Cool, refreshing, with that hard carbonation sliding down your throat.

I used to think that I didn't drink much soda. I never brought it for myself. Most of the time, I got water in restaurants, I drink a lot of Arnold Palmers... But I never really noticed how often I indulged in soda. If there was soda at my parent's house, I'd have some. If it was available at a friend's house, I'd choose it over water. Lately this summer, I'd just want to gulp some down in the middle of the hot afternoon.

Soda isn't good for me. Everyone knows that. From chipping away at your teeth to all the sugar to that awful bloated feeling afterwards, it really isn't good for any of us! I like juice and I like water and I like tea but... what do you do when you just have that soda craving?

Do you like soda? Any substitute to it?

  4. I quit drinking soda a number of years ago and have only had the occasional ginger ale or cream soda since then. Once or twice a year is more than enough to get the craving out of my system, and I haven't had anything like Coke or Sprite in SO long that when I do take a sip of it just to see if I want it, it tastes insanely sweet/gross to me.

When I first started kicking my soda habit I would keep a couple bottles of San Pellegrino sparking natural mineral water in the fridge (and splash a little lemon in it) to get the carbonation fix without actually ingesting carbonation.

These days I can't even finish an entire can/bottle of even something like ginger ale because the bubbles literally feel like they're shredding my throat apart. /end drama ;p

  5. I usually drink water, but some meals call for a nice tall glass of soda! I prefer Sprite - it's so refreshing! :)

  6. I used to be seriously addicted to caffeine when I was in high school. It became something of a problem, so I quit drinking caffeinated sodas. Sometime in college, I stopped drinking all soda just because I hated drinking calories, and diet soda is so friggin' bad for you. Now, I just drink water.
However, my favorite soda used to be Mt. Dew. AMAZING.

  7. I usually don't drink soda very often at all, unless I'm going all out fast food goodness. One my local burger joints recently got one of those computerize soda dispensers where you can make up to like a million different combinations so of course whenever we go there, I need to have at least five (followed by about six trips to the ladies room!)

  8. I didn't use to drink soda very often, but lately I've been drinking it non stop. I know it's not a good think, and just like you I love tea, and fruit juices. But I can't control myself! x)

  9. If it helps, switch to sugar and caffeine free soda first.

  11. I'm not much of a soda fan. It makes me feel all bloaty and gross. Though, once in a while, like when I find a place that sells unique flavors, I'll indulge! Soda with bitters is the best.

  12. So funny! I had a huge soda craving today and I went to a gas station to buy one, but I ended up getting apple juice instead. I always try to fight the craving and this time I won. I do treat myself to a soda once in a while though for sure. A nice cold coke!

  14. My only soda craving would be coke and rootbeer. Rootbeer has since fallen off the list. It's Coke for now. It has to be served iced in a glass in order to have that refreshing and thirt-quenching properties. Coke drunk from a can, from paper cup from fast food restaurants just do not give the same feeling. Psychological? I'm not sure but I'm sure Coke taste better in a glass.

  17. I love soda too, so I definitely see its appeal, especially when it comes to thirst-quenching! Nowadays, I just squeeze lemon into my water, but before that, I used to buy fruity-flavored sparkling water. It's sugar-free, and bubbly, with a hint of flavor! I would only recommend it after it has been in the fridge though. It doesn't taste as good warm. :D

  18. Sometimes a can of Diet Coke is the only thing in this god forsaken world that I need. And I really hate that. :P Since, you know, Coca Cola is a sucky company and it's a sucky product but, ah, it's so lush.
