You know what's not always practical?

Huge family style meals when you live alone. And when you're in college.

I love food, but when I have 12 hours days and only myself to feed, here's a list of things I won't do:

1. Prep and cook for hours.
2. Cook huge portions of food that don't taste good reheated.

Here's some things I will do:
1. Make a sammich.

But seriously, this is a Laura Original Recipe. A LOR, if you will.
I really shouldn't write recipes, but here goes.
Ingredients
White bread (or whatever)
Cheese (I used provolone)
Sliced Tomatoes
Sliced Mushrooms
Lunch Meat Roast Beast Beef

1. Heat up your skillet to medium. Place a piece of bread and cheese on it.
2. Put mushrooms on top of that. Then tomatoes.
3. Take that off the skillet and put the other slice of bread and cheese on the skillet.
4. Put roast beef on that. Then take that off the skillet and put it on the other part of the sandwich. MAKE SURE TO PUT IT ROAST BEEF SIDE DOWN.

I just taught you how to warm a sandwich. A sandwich that doesn't cook the mushrooms or really melt the cheese that well.

  1. Lol, this was fantastic. My bf always yells at me because I cook too much food for the two of us. To my defense, though, he'll eat ANYTHING reheated, so it doesn't go to waste.

  2. yum! i need to learn how to cook for one.

  3. LOL - this is fantastic! I also have no time to prep and prim when it comes to cooking so my poor family has to eat instant noodles and sandwiches on a day to day basis :) One of these days I will be a good wife and learn how to cook!

  6. LOL yes there is only myself and the husband and we are hardly home so to cook a big meal is out of the question. That sandwich looks delish!

  7. You still make efforts! When I lived alone, I used to be on a not-so-healthy diet of cereals&milk because it was the most practical thing to 'prepare'...

Thank you so much for visiting my blog!

  9. That looks soooo good! And I know what you mean. All of the recipes I got from my mom were for 4+ people, so I've had to learn how to cook for 1-2. Otherwise, we are eating Mexican Lasagna for a week. (Not that I mind, it saves well and I love it. But still.)

  11. nommie nom nom. It's kinda the same thing because there's only 2 of us at home, so I can't really cook too much or else the food'll spoil super quick.

  12. Spending a million hours cooking a family-style meal for one person isn't so bad, if it feeds you for a whole week! The amount of time it takes is probably worth it.

  17. Yum! That sandwich looks delicious! I couldn't agree with you more on making a lot of food, and re-heating it, and how that isn't the tastiest option.

What I like to do is go to Trader Joe's. If you have one near you, you should definitely check them out. They have a ton of pre-made stuff that i really healthy. All you have to do is bake/microwave it, depending on what it is. :)

  20. I too, think that cooking for one person's share is a waste of time, energy and resources. However, I'm quite unhealthy and would probably cook instant noodles or something. I feel like eating roast beef or smoked salmon sandwich now!

  25. Roast Beast...HA!

When I was in college I would buy lunch meat and just eat sandwiches for like weeks at a time...it's super quick and easy when you've had long exhausting days and win win...no real clean up needed!
