My Life Is Average Mondays: Social Media Dilemma

I seem to like creating problems for myself where there are none. Today, the topic is social media. The main scope of discussion is, if I could only choose one, what would I create? A Twitter or Tumblr account?

Why only one? Well... self imposed rule. Often times, I feel incredibly over social media-ed. I actually did have a Twitter that I got rid of because I was constantly looking at it. Even when I walk now, my face is stuck in Facebook. There's a joke in there somewhere, ten points to Hufflepuff if you find it.

So, let's talk pros and cons. Twitter. Twitter is easy to use. I've used it before! I can connect with all of you who have twitter accounts and share pictures as well as live updates of what I'm up to. I can also get your latest info. Twitter will be incredibly useful in sharing blog stuff with blogger buddies. On the other hand, I notice that I am much much much less censored on Twitter.

Tumblr. I go on tumblr even when I don't have one. Tumblr is certainly popular, but it doesn't seem as popular among the blogs that I follow. I think I'd love to have a tumblr because of all the fandoms there. I could rant about Sherlock Holmes and Star Trek and Doctor Who without confusing you guys. But... I don't want to separate myself and run two blogs.

What do you guys think? Do you have Twitter? Tumblr? Which one should I get?

  1. Hufflepuff joke! YES. Having both, I would say think about what you want more: a medium to connect with your blogspot blogger friends or a medium to make/connect with friends in fandoms and be silly with them. Personally, I would choose tumblr because it gives you a better variety of posting and replying options, but Twitter is definitely the more professional route. I dunno.

P.S. Please do tell me about this Dark Blue story one day...haha

  2. I only have twitter. I think anything that I would put on a tumblr, I could just put on my blog. But that's just me. I've never used tumblr so I don't really know.

    1. I agree with that. I think it's awkward to post tumblr like pictures on my blog, but I suppose they're no reason why I shouldn't.

  3. So I have all three! Sometimes I do feel over media-ed but this is sorta how I view each.
Blog- The one of most importance to me. This is an outlet for me and a place where I can do anything I want. Even though sometimes I feel like getting rid of it, I always come back and remind myself that it is mine, I can save my memories here and I enjoy being a part of the blogging community (while pretending to be a blogger!)

Twitter- This is def the easiest way for me to stay connected to said blogging community. I like twitter because it is easy to use and it is quick. It feels really different to me than facebook in a good way. Almost all the blogs/websites I follow use twitter and often post interesting and fun links to their blog or other stuff so when I am sitting around with nothing to do, I can just scroll down and can usually find something visually stimulating to look at. The only thing here is that if you follow a lot of people, that timeline can get filled up pretty quickly! I am kind of a weird anal ocd person so I always feel like i have to scroll through and read anything I might have missed in like the last 3 hours and sometimes that can take another three hours! so in the long run it can get time consuming, but I am getting better at just ignoring it.

Tumblr- I love tumblr because I can ignore it and not feel bad about it! I have ignored that thing for weeks at a time and I just dont care. I dont consider it something personal so maybe thats why I have less of an attachment to it. I consider it more a place to bookmark things that peak my interest or provide inspiration. I rarely put original content, that might sound bad, but I think thats what my blog is for. Tumblr I just browse around and reblog things that I like. And when i feel sorta blah I can go look at my own tumblr and find some cool stuff. And then of course there is the fandom aspect of it! Who doesnt want to look at cute pictures of Dr. Who!?!

Anyways, this is probably the longest comment I have ever left on anyones blog! Just thought I would chime in and hopefully it helped you out a bit.
Have a nice day! Bri :)

P.S. if you are really interested in going to L.A. for spring break let me know and I can recommend some great places for you!

  4. If I had to choose between Twitter and Tumblr, I would have to go with Twitter. It is a great tool for making connections and building relationships.

  10. well i find a bit creepy commenting every that is so like me..
i had twitter once but i wasn't into promoting my blog with it and i had no friends there so i got bored and quit..i got one recently just for my blog buddies and it is a very different experience..i have a fb page and a separate account with which i moderate it because i want to keep my private fb just for the people i know and can keep track of both activities.it is solely for my blog stuff..as for tumblr i have considered creating an account just to follow fandoms and keep track of whatever the f i do unblog(?not a word i know) related, but i think as of now the blogger serves the purpose because i talk about everything i want to and for keeping a track of inspirational or exciting stuff i use pinterest.which is far easier to categorise than tumblr.for tv and movie i have an imdb account and find most of my cinema geek satisfaction from there.

  11. I have used twitter before. Not helpful when it comes to blogs at all. I think twitter is more popular if you sell products.

  12. I know what you mean about feeling overwhelmed with all this social media out there. It's like we can't even live without checking our phones or computers at least once throughout the day anymore. I have a twitter that I only use for blog purposes, and I think that's going to be it for now. I don't have the time or energy to do a tumblr and facebook for my blog as well ><

    1. Checking my phone once throughout the day? I check my phone once every couple of hours, and when I'm walking around, my phone is constantly in my hands.

  14. Oh man...lol. That is a tough one. I have both a twitter and a tumblr. I think they both are good in their own ways. I like Tumblr for the same reason I think you like it...it has certain tumblogs on certain subjects that you can follow and then twitter is fun because you can post and share about anything. I think I use them both equally...actually, I use tumblr more than twitter. On twitter, I mostly use it to follow and don't do much tweeting haha. Well, which ever you choose, I want to follow! :D

  15. I use instagram most, then twitter, then tumblr, then fb. But I deleted a lot of people to make sure I didn't stay on those site for too long at a time. Good luck!

  16. Get neither of them! For me, all you need is Facebook and some type of blog. Twitter is essentially the simplified version of Facebook, and Tumblr, wordpress, etc are not needed if you already have Blogger! Simplify life and keep it to a minimal haha.

AND I just had to say, are you talking about Sherlock Holmes BBC TV series?! If so, omg we must rant about it together one day. If not, haha, just ignore my massive fandom.
