My Life is Awesome Mondays: ABC12, Graduation and Travel

Oh man... I have so much to tell you!

I went to the Arizona Blogger Conference on Saturday, April 28th. You probably don't remember, but I attended a meetup last year as well. Like last year, I got lost on the way there and on the way back. This year's conference, known lovingly as ABC12, was awesome. I think there were at least 2x the number of people attended. On the other hand, I don't think I spoke with as many people. We got goody bags, we mingled, and we listened to speakers. I only took two pictures to commemorate the event.

The first picture was of some jars of pickled something or the other people were putting on bread. I thought it was weird. Sophistication is weird.

The second is a bag of goodies! Just look at all that stuff. The popchips and candy are gone already. Of course.
When I think back, I'm not really sure how to describe my experience. The event included tips and tricks for bloggers, keynote speakers, salon services ( I got chalk put in my hair!), clothing...  Being there was a surreal experience. Everyone exemplified that "blogger style" looked like they stepped off the pages of lookbook. I think the average height of heels there was four inches. I'm going to link you to Brenda Eden because 1. she's an actual photographer and 2. she took pictures of the event. I'm still trying to find everyone I talked to and connect connect connect!

I'm graduating on Wednesday, May 2nd. I think I'm just excited to be done with school for the semester.

Avengers comes out on Friday, May 4th. Due to my schedule, I don't think I'll get to see it right away but I'm so excited to see Loki, his army, the Avengers and their Hulk. You probably know that I love Superhero movies, but this one is special. It's written/directed by Joss Whedon who you probably know from Buffy the Vampire Slay, Dollhouse, and Firefly. He's known for awesome plot and character development, which is usually lacking in superhero movies. I'm so excited about this that it's just hard to be eloquent.

I'm going to China for two weeks on Sunday, May 6th. Surprise! I know I don't have many Chinese readers (I think blogger is blocked) but I do know some of you guys are from Malaysia, Singapore, and HK. I also think I know some people who are Chinese but live in the US, Australia or Canada? Anyways, I'd love to know if you'll be in Shanghai on May 7th, 8th or 16th through 20th. Or if you'll be in Beijing from the 9th to the 15th. I'd love an international meet up!

Dressing for the ever-changing weather.

These days, it's 60 in the mornings and 100 in the afternoons. This leaves me grasping for things to wear. I've been incredibly uninspired this past winter, which is probably why you haven't seen too many outfit posts. I'd love to know tips if you have any.

This is what I wore on one of my better days.

Cardigan: Loft (20.00)
Shirt: Calvin Klein (10.99)
Shorts: Love Culture (about $12)
Tights: Last Chance (1.00)
Boots: Target Xhilaration Karassa Slouchy Heeled Boots - Cognac (29.99)

I really want to show off my new cardigan that I got from Loft. I seriously love their cardigans. They have the best fit and the most durable quality. I've had this cardigan for ages and it beats out Old Navy and Forever 21.

Animal Kingdom Adventures

My little brother and I planned this trip like crazy. My parents wanted to relax but the kids definitely took over the reigns in wanting to run like a German train.

We walked a ton of places and we passed the Tree of Life a lot. I remember from the last time I came to Disney, we spent a ton of time in the Animal Kingdom. My little brother wasn't too interested and so we tried to make a really quick run-through.

As we waited to get into watching a Lion King show, I took "artsy" shots. Conclusion? I suck. But that's really okay.

This show was actually pretty darn awesome. I was almost a little ashamed that I knew so many lyrics.

Since it was so warm, we stopped to get some Mickey Mouse ice cream. I remember this from the last time I went to Disneyland (about 12 years ago)! I remember it was one of the most amazing things that I've ever had and that it was incredibly expensive... When I go back to it, I realize that it's good, but not amazing and it's expensive but not anymore than usual amusement park fare. Oh age, how you've sobered me to the experiences of life.

The next little batch of pictures come from Finding Nemo. If you haven't see the movie... WHY. GO WATCH IT. And if you have, you will probably recognize the following scenes!

11 Questions Tag!

The lovely Debi from flysongbird recently tagged me to answer some questions about myself.
It's an 11 tag. This picture makes sense if you watch Doctor Who.
via weheartit
  • You must post these rules.
  • Each person must post 11 things about themselves on their blog.
  • Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post and create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.
  • You have to choose 11 people to tag and link them on the post.
  • Go to their page and tell them you have linked him or her.
  • No tag backs.
  • No stuff in the tagging section about 'you are tagged if you are reading this'. You legitimately have to tag 11 people.

10 Facts (and one lie, try to guess!)
1. I like to eat meat.
2. I still keep in touch with friends from middle school.
3. I'm an accounting and psychology major.
4. I love chocolate!
5. I have only done a chocolate fondue once in my life and I'm waiting for that special occasion to do it again.
6. Playing Skyrim makes me sick because I can't control the characters very well while they're moving.
7. I have never been to South America.
8. I have been absolutely addicted to boba, especially the green tea kind.
9. I can't stand melons. Watermelons, cantaloupes, honeydew. Grossssss.
10. I love to hike!
11. Sometimes I wear glasses, sometimes I wear contacts.

My Answers:
Do you have any phobias?
Oh my god, yes. I have Ornithophobia, which is a fear of birds. I can't go near them. I hate looking at pictures of them. I HATE it when they fly near you and if there's a bird crossing my path, I'll go out of my way to avoid it.

Who is your favourite movie villain?
When I think about this, Ursula comes to mind right away. I love her song, Poor Unfortunate Souls and I think she has such a lovely curvy body. In fact, I used to wriggle like her when I was little.

Favourite book?
The Sherlock Holmes Series by Arthur Conan Doyle. Duh. And hands down.

A memorable vacation?
The summer before my senior year of high school, my family and I went to Japan. That was more or less in the height of my Japanese obsession so I thought it was the best thing ever.

Why did you start blogging?
I was reading a lot of blogs and I wanted to share my hauls and reviews too. At that time, I had a livejournal but that LJ had so many private thoughts from when I was a kiddo that I didn't feel like publicizing it to the world. I started this blog because I wanted to improve so many aspects about myself. While that's still a goal, I find myself documenting my life here.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I wish I knew. I really really really wish I knew. But I'm at a time when there's so much up in the air. Thinking about where I'm going to be makes me anxious; sometimes I'm excited for what the future has to bring, other times I want to crawl into a hole.

Do you have any weird habits?
I had no idea I did this, but apparently, I smell my boyfriend as a greeting. He says "Hello" and I lean in to smell his shoulder. I'm a creep, what can I do?

Favourite TV shows that are currently on air.
Okay, Community. Bones. Castle. Grimm. Big Bang Theory. PLEASE tell me if you're also a fan of these shows because I love talking to people about this stuff.

Favourite designer.
For the longest time, I didn't have one, but I'd have to say Jason Wu.

What do you think about reality TV?
Not a fan, for the most part. I don't think that I'm too highbrow for it (because I do indulge in the occasional Chinese dating show) but for the most part, it's just not interesting. I am generally not good with following plots of a person's life and I'm quite nerdy. So unless they make a show about nerds, I will probably not be interested.

What is the most adventurous thing you have ever done?
I honestly don't do a lot of adventurous things at all! I'm a pretty boring person, but I guess lately, I've always been up for travelling. I went to Europe in 2010 with people I didn't know. I dunno, we stayed in hotels and all the travel was supervised though. If I do anything adventurous, I'll get back to you!

11 Questions for you to answer:
1. Do you like to read? What do you find yourself reaching for?
2. How many hours a day do you find yourself doing blog related activities?
3. Bows or ribbons?
4. How often do you do your nails?
5. Do you have a way you do your hair/face everyday or does it change on a day to day basis?
6. Do you have any siblings? Do they blog?
7. Is your health a huge concern to you?
8. Which popular thing does everyone else love... but you just don't care for?
9. What if someone came and told you your blog name was taken and copyrighted by someone who came before you? Would you fight it or change it? What would you change it to?
10. How do you feel about hair extensions and fake lashes?
11. Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?

Foul Looking, Yummy Tasting Dessert

I love beautiful desserts, like the rest of you. I just can't make them.

Life. It goes on.

I started off by tasting this new Ben and Jerry's ice cream. I recommend it.

Next is the cooking part.

Ingredients
Enough butter to grease the pan
2 bananas
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup milk
Teaspoon of Cinnamon

Instructions
1. Grease the pan with butter.
2. Throw in brown sugar and milk, stir occasionally until brown sugar is dissolved.
3. Throw in bananas and that cinnamon.

4. Scoop out and place in bowl.

You generally should leave it all nice and intact but honestly... you want to mix it all up before eat it. It's more delicious that way.

SEXY Swimwear!

Let me preface this post by admitting that I don't need swimwear. I have what I need considering the fact that I never go swimming. There's also this part of me that won't stop believing that I will look as fit as the models do if I wear what they wear. A little eyecandy though, never hurt anyone.

(Unless you put rock candy on your open eye and pour soda there. But why would you ever do that?)

I've been really into one piece swimsuits lately! I have a two piece, but one-piece swimsuits have just started looking sexier to me.

from Old Navy,  Women's Twisted Polka-Dot Bandeau Swimsuit
So vintage and cute, right? Modcloth has been instrumental in showing my how much fun I can have underwater. Even though if I were EVER underwater, it would be because I drowned.

How perfect would that look on tan skin?

Modcloth, Bathing Beauty One Piece in White
I just don't think I can get enough polkadots!

Modcloth, Beach Blanket Bingo One Piece
Isn't this one so wacky and adorable?

Last, but not least, let our summer stripes represent!

Marvel PicSpam

As I was dying down from the high of Harry Potter, we wandered into Marvelverse. I may have gone a little nuts. This is pretty much amazing Marvel picspam. Or... just a picspam if you're not into Marvel.

This was from a Fantastic Four Cafe.

The Hulk was this CRAZY rollercoaster full of staightups and upside down turns. My little brother went on it. At first, I thought he was going to be all talk with rollercoasters, but he really went on a ton!

This happened to be a spinny ride.

These beautiful and huge poster-like billboards were on the top of almost every building.

Doom was on a raise-you-straight-up-and-drop-you-down ride.

These things were also over all the shops!

I took touristy pictures by boards.

I think this was one of the last pictures I took. You know how Aquaman always gets the short straw? Yeah, even in Marvelverse, he gets the short straw!

Sometimes, they matched up the superhero to the theme of the place. I thought this was cute.

Towards the end of the trip, an announcer said that Dr. Doom and the Green Goblin were around. Then a few minutes later, we spotted these guys. Look in the background! Wolverine and Captain America.

And thennnnn my parents and I realized that these people were available to take pictures with so I got one with Cyclops after much hesitation.

I think it's so much less awkward if you're a little boy and not an adult. But I'm a kid at heart!!! In related news, I don't think I can get any more excited by Avengers.

One last winter outfit post!

Do you ever miss outfit pictures? Completely pass over them? And then when you post them, it's not even the same weather anymore? I actually do that a lot.

Necklace: Forever XXI (Gift)
Sweater: New York and Company (Old)
Skirt: H&M (5.95)
Coat: Last Kiss (20.00 via Ross)
Tights: Forever XXI (6.80)
Shoes: Michelle D (Old)

In other musings, what do you guys know about shapewear? I've been seeing it pop up here and there when I ask how some girls get their shirts and blouses tucked into bottoms but I haven't really explored it. The reason I ask is that right now there's a sale at Maidenform (50% off clearance and free shipping with code SLICKFREESHIP) and I'm wondering if I should pick up anything. Let me know what you guys think and here's a link to the sale info!

ELF Studio Blushes!

When I hit pan on my Covergirl Blush, I got two more blushes from ELF. Little did I know that "hitting pan" does not mean you're done with it. At all... But I do have to pretty blushes to review!

The one on the left is Berry Merry and the on on the right is is Blushing Rose.

I think they're both lovely mauve/berry colors. But let's take them out of their cases. First up, Berry Merry. This color redefines blushes for me. Before, I had to really layer on my blush for it to be even a little bit visible. But Berry Merry is so incredibly pigmented that I have to really watch out and use the lightest hand with it.

This is a darker berry color that I find appealing because of my darker, yellow/olive tinted skin. It was perfect in the winter but I'm not 100% sure about how it'll be in the summer. There are many comparisons between this product and NARS products so if you're into dupes for three dollars, I'd definitely look into it. This color does have some pretty visible gold and silver shimmer in it, which may be a deal maker or breaker for ya!

This Blushing Rose is a lot more pink, but it's still a dark pink. While not as pigmented as Berry Merry, it's not  NOT pigmented. As far as different skintones go, I think this color is a lot more versatile on much darker skintones than mine and much lighter. There is shimmer here, but less than in Berry Merry. It's also apparently a NARS dupe!

Overall, I've been loving these blushes for three bucks! I find that it's nice sleek packaging, good color and pigmentation and an overall great product. I highly recommend it.

Have you tried these out? What did you think?
