Handbags for Work: A Practical Post

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Here's my reminder to load up on chocolates.... tomorrow!

Last time I just posted about handbags that I wanted. This time, I'm looking for ones in a price range I'd actually buy. I want a purse that looks great, but I also want a purse that's not high maintenance. I don't want to worry about it being stolen because of the brand or not be able to set it out on the ground. I like being able to use, abuse, and then dump my things.

This first one is a really sleek looking bag. I worry that that straps are a bit too thin and that the interior would be unorganized but overall, it looks great. Almost reminds me of Prada.

Merona Saffiano Tote, Target
This houndstooth tote is pretty cute. Not sure that it'd be large enough for a laptop but the print and the extra pockets on the side gives it a little something-something.

I'll admit that I don't love the texture of this tote, but it's rare to find an aesthetically pleasing computer bag. (Right? Or is it just me?) I think I might need to bite the bullet and get a designer laptop bag. However, I have no idea what they look like or how much they actually run.

While this bag is probably the best looking of the bunch, I bet it's the smallest. I always want the cutest, most structured bags the most but these are always the most expensive and not meant for throwing around and abusing. This one is an okay price, but still...

Cissone, Aldo
This looks like a decent, practical bag. ...Meh. It just doesn't excite me. Will I ever be able to find a bag that is pretty and functional? The world may never know. Tune in next week on... Wait. I'm off track.

What do you guys use? Any recommendations for me?

  1. The bag from Target looks a lot like Michael Kors Travel Tote! Plaid isnt usually my thing, but I like that one the most.

    1. I've heard that those are pretty good. I think I'm a fan of Kors bags in general.

  5. i like the saffiano tote from target too.. and you're right it is sort of prada-ish.. it has that innate chic simplicity! i think if you put a purse organizer inside it would make an excellent work tote :)

    1. That's a great idea. I think I do want something laptop compatible, but if that doesn't work, I'll do two bags.

  9. Out of these, I think I like the Aldo one the best, as far as looks. If you're looking for something inexpensive (for throwing around purposes), have you tried F21? I got a big tote/satchel bag there a few months back and it's great. It's big and holds all my crap, but on the outside, it still looks stylish. And it only cost me $20. :)

  10. The window display you asked about is Paper Source. They always have cute windows.

I like the plaid bag the best. I like to look at the bags at Target and sometimes they are really cute. They haven't yet had a bag that I liked that was also the right size for me though. Last year, I bought a small, simple tote-style Dooney & Bourke bag for work. I got it with a large discount, I waited until it went on sale so it wasn't crazy expensive but it was still out of my spending-comfort zone for a bag. So far, it has held up to my abuse. The bag I bought before that had a stretched pleather handle after 2 months of use so I did tons of research on a better quality bag to last me for a while.

    Good luck with your search!

  11. I have had experience with several different Target tote bags for work and the first option you have looks like one of the ones I had problems with the straps pulling and breaking. I think the second one is my favorite, but unlike you, I like houndstooth.

  13. I have an MZ Wallace bag that's awesome (because it's waterproof and HUGE) and I also have one from Lo & Sons. The Lo & Sons one is awesome because there's a separate compartment for SHOES - how genius is that

  14. I like the first one best coz it looks so simple and classic, almost like Prada, yes. You could get a bag organizer for bags like this to keep your things in place.

  15. Haha, that's the best thing about valentine candy, it's always 50% off the next day. :)

I think the first handbag is my favorite, it has really clean lines and the texture looks nice. (I do see what you mean about the straps looking thin, that might be a little nerve wracking for carrying around your laptop.)

  16. These bags are so pretty. I love to buy these entire bags. Handbags add to the ambiance and beauty of a person, especially a woman. Maybe that's why handbags are so hot after all these years.

  21. Ooh I really like the houndstooth bag. I love how you can find cute accessories at Target :D

  22. Personally I love the first handbag! I adore structured bags and this one is simple and classy. Plus you can also spice it up and personalize it with all sorts of accessory and make it more casual if you feel it's too formal sometimes. I really adore some bags at F21 or Aldo accessories, in fact I've got my eye on a really cute structured nautical bag but I guess I'd only use that during the summer haha

  23. I love the first handbag probably because it reminds me of Michael Kors. My honest opinion is to invest in agoodbag (I'm not sure target quality is stable enough for everyday wear and abuse). I currently have a LesSport Sac that I use when I'm not carrying a backpack. I also bought a laptop sleeve in case I'm not using a backpack. I feel that it's safer this way in case I toss it in a tote or randomly decide to hold it. I know long chap bags are popular, sterdy, professional looking, comes in multiple colors, but they're crazy expensive for what they are. Shop around! check amazon, overstock.com, 6pm.com, TjMaxx/Marshall's. don't settle if you don't have to. The perfect bag will come along if you haven't already found it (:
