A Trip Down the Greenbelt

I haven't ridden a bike in about ten years, but a few weekends ago, I rented a beach cruiser and went for a 15 mile bike ride.

Miles 1-5 were a breeze. I was just getting used to riding. It was fun. During 5-8, I was getting a bit tired. I think I realized during this time that I'd have to bike back. 8-12 were super tough. My behind started hurting because of the bike seat. 12-15 I was so tired that I thought I was going to hurl.

Then after the bike ride, I got a sunburn. ...I have NEVER gotten sunburnt before.

My ultimate conclusion is this: While bike riding is a fantastic workout and great fun, I just can't do it in the Arizona sun. Here are a few pictures from my trip.

This was a sign I found on my way back. ...I feel like this isn't a good viewing area at all. In fact, it kind of looks like a dump.

On the other hand though. Tempe Town Lake. ...What a beauty. I've really gotten to appreciate how lovely our little Tempe downtown looks.

Lastly, here's an oh so flattering picture of me during that awful time between miles 12-15. I pretty much got off my bike, sat down and stayed there while I directed someone else to take pictures of the surrounding area.

  2. 15 miles on a bike is a lot different then walking, I know, but I think I'd die biking that distance! Sounds like a lot of fun though :]

  14. Haha, I love how the good viewing area was a bad viewing area. You should contact whoever makes those signs.

When I go walking, I do the same thing as you. I get going and then realize oh hey, I have to go back still. Like in my brain I feel like there is a finish line with a car waiting to take me back and not a several mile hike back the way I came from.

  19. Whoa! 15 mile sounds intense! You def deserve a pat on the back and perhaps more hahaha Tempe town looks super pretty. I would not remember that I have to bike back too and would really need to wear runners.....not that I even know how to bike in the first place!

re: Never feel embarrassed to take photos with the characters at disney land! I'm still going to do it when I'm "old". I hope you get to go back and take some photos lol

  25. My sister and I used to bike a lot. there are soo many sights to sea where I live. but now. I guess we got too old for that. And the dusty road gave me a really bad breakout. :( Biking is a really good way to exercise though.
